After You Dessert Café (Central World)
Talad Rot Fai Ratchada (Train Night Market)
After a good night sleep, we were ready for another day of fun and adventure!
The princess and myself went down for breakfast first as we were too hungry to wait for Daddy to get ready. We thought of a change and went to the breakfast restaurant. To our dismay, there was a long queue. The hungry monster in us couldn't wait any longer and so we went back to the lounge for our breakfast.

It's going to be hard-core shopping day for us. So we filled our tummy with a heavy breakfast and headed towards to Platinum Fashion Mall. Taking into consideration Bangkok notorious traffic jam, we decided to walk from our hotel to the mall via the sheltered SkyWalk. It was probably a good 15 minutes walk and we arrived at about 11am - just before the crowd came in.

Being a wholesale mall, you will probably get more discount if you buy more items from the supplier. So don't be shocked if the vendor appear nonchalant if you are only buying one item.
I've also encountered staff who seemed more interested on their mobile phone contents or checking their hair/makeup in the mirror than doing business with you. Unless you absolutely want that particular item badly, my advice is to move on to the next shop. Don't waste time lah!

Let's go shopping! |
As I'm well aware it's difficult to buy clothes of my size, I've decided to focus my energy buying stuff for the princess. So we headed straight to the children's department while Daddy went to the men's section.
It was quite fun to do some girly shopping with my princess. We bought dresses, accessories, shoes and even umbrellas!
After less than 2 hours of combing through the children's section, we were totally exhausted. So it's time to replenish our energy at the food court located conveniently on the 6th Floor.

The princess polished off the chicken rice in no time while the pig trotter rice I had was probably one of the best! But the highlight was the mango sticky rice we had from the dessert stall - the mangoes were so sweet!

After lunch, the princess followed Daddy to the stationery store to stock up on school supplies while I got some "ME" time. However, I couldn't find anything I fancy - the clothes style were too cute/sweet/small size and the shoes and bags were totally not my style. So, I ended up buying more stuff for the princess.

The princess was complaining of hunger and fatigue. So we left Platinum Fashion Mall in search of tea break options and ended up at After You Dessert Café at Central World Mall.
This time round, we decided to have the Kakigori dessert (Japanese style shaved ice) which looked really inviting. We ordered the Milo Volcano Kakigori and Strawberry Mille Crepe, Earl Grey Squash Jelly Tea and Lavender Lychee Soda for drinks.
The Milo Volcano Kakigori was really good - the shaved ice was soft and fluffy and simply melted the moment it entered your mouth. As for the strawberry mille crepe, I'm not a big fan to begin with. So I can't really comment on its quality. In fact, I also don't know why I ordered this dessert. Haha.
While the Earl Grey Squash Jelly Tea was mediocre, the Lavender Lychee Soda still ranked first in my opinion.

It was Daddy's turn to take over from the parental duty. So he brought the princess back to the room for her nap while I went to my daily dosage of foot massage. I went to the one recommended by the staff at the lounge (can't recall the shop name though). The therapist assigned to me was a motherly lady with a kind smile and I was fooled by her demeanor. She may look slender but her strokes packed a punch! I was feeling recharged after an hour of her firm yet painless massage.
And it was happy hour time at the lounge! I took the opportunity to regain my sanity by enjoying the finger food and drinks at a leisurely pace before going up to the room. Life's good!

The princess had a good afternoon nap and was raring to leave for The Train Night Market (Talad Rot Fai Ratchada).
Below was our route to the night market
- BTS Sukhumvit Line - Siam to Asok
- Walk from BTS Asok Station to MRT Sukhumvit Station (follow the clearly marked signs within the station)
- MRT - Sukhumvit Station to Thailand Cultural Centre

Do note that the toilets at the night market are located at one far corner and the hygiene standards are better left unsaid. So, my advice is to use the cleaner toilets in the mall before going to the night market.
The night market was clearly divided into sections - food on one side and the rest on the other side. I think there was also a row of pubs behind the market which I hope to visit next time. It looks pretty cool. We even saw a retro barber shop!
We were absolutely starving when we arrived at this night market. Great! Time to fill up our tummy!
We followed our sense of smell which led us to the food section and found a small seafood stall that seemed to be rather popular. Well, you know what people say when the queue is long, the food must be good. After indicating our interest, the stall assistant started arranging the seating space for us.
After squeezing into the cramped seating area, we started ordering from the menu which featured mostly seafood dishes.
The highlight had got to be that salt-crusted grilled fish. Even the princess couldn't stop eating it. Beneath that salt crusted skin (which of course cannot be eaten) lies the most juicy, tender fish meat that was bursting with flavour. So so good lah.
The other dishes were good too but were overshadowed by the unbelievable fish.

After dinner, we walked over to the other side of the market where merchandise were sold in an attempt to burn off some calories. On the way, we saw many food stalls selling local street food but we were so full from our dinner. So we thought of coming back later to snack.
The flea market style set up had stalls selling clothes, shoes, mobile phone accessories etc. The stalls were neatly arranged over several lanes and the walkway was spacious enough to walk at a leisurely pace. We were even blessed with light breeze that night which made shopping a lot more enjoyable.

After shopping for a good hour or so, we were back to the food section again. We found this particular stall selling wanton noodles. Judging from the full house crowd, we reckoned it must be good and decided to have a go at it also. And boy, we were so right! The springy noodles combined with the generous ingredients in the flavourful sauce had us gobbling the noodles down in glee.

Overall, I do like this night market. The arty vibes with lots of retro memorabilia, the organised layout with friendly stall vendors, the loud music blaring from the distance and of course the wide variety of food selection which will leave you spoilt for choice.
If you have the chance, do drop by for the experience.
