Japan Trip 2018 - Day 8

Kuromon Ichiba Market
Tenjinbashi Suji Shopping Street

Exhausted from yesterday activities, we slept in and woke up late. It was our R&R Sunday - the only plan we had was to eat and shop to our heart's content.

We had our late breakfast in bed from the bread bought from the bakery the night before and the remaining cheesecake from previous day. After taking our own sweet time to get ready, we finally left our hotel just before lunch.

Such a cute bread!

As the weather was clear, we decided to take a 15 minutes walk to Kuromon Ichiba Market.

Kuromon Ichiba Market which means "Black Gate Market" is a foodie's paradise. Nicknamed "Osaka's Kitchen" as the locals and restaurant chefs get their supplies here, the market is famous for its fresh seafood and is hence a popular tourist location. One of the reason for it's popularity is that many stalls will cook and serve the food to you on the spot. So go with an empty tummy as there is a wide variety of food to eat here!
Besides fresh seafood, there are also shops selling souvenirs, snacks, fruits and vegetables. In other words, it has almost everything!
The entire market is under a sheltered walkway, so you don't have to worry even if it rains. The only thing to worry is not enough tummy space to eat all the food there.

We arrived at Kuromon Ichiba Market around lunch time and we were starting to feel hungry. Good! Let's start our eating tour!

This stall selling preserved fruits has got to be one of our favourite!

White strawberries

Daddy couldn't resist the lure of beef steak when we walked pass this store. So we sat down for a short break while he enjoyed his moo-moo cut.

After walking for a little while more, we were starting to feel tired. So we stopped by a family-run sushi restaurant to fulfil our promise to the princess - tamago sushi. As expected, the princess did not show any mercy to anyone of us by finishing all the tamago sushi that we ordered.

Upon leaving Kuromon Ichiba Market, we were heading towards the subway station when I spotted UCC Café Plaza. Though we were still full from lunch, we couldn't give up the chance to sip one of my favourite Japanese coffee and I was so glad I stepped into this store.
The moment you walked into the café, the aroma from the coffee beans will engulf your senses to kick-start your caffeine addict.
Before you even have time to take a second whiff, the polite attendant will appear to check with you if you would like a smoking or non-smoking area. After which, you will be shown to your table.
As the coffee is brewed using the siphoning method, each sip from the cup is guaranteed to be bursting with flavour and I dare to declare that this is one of the best cup of black coffee I've ever had.
We couldn't resist ordering the waffle as dessert and was surprised by our appetite. We totally polished off the whole dish! Like the saying goes "There's always room for dessert".

Yes, that's how much I LOVE my coffee!

We then headed to Tenjinbashi-suji - Osaka's longest shopping street. The 2.6km covered arcade consists of more than 600 shops selling a huge variety of goods and is frequented by locals. Thus, you can expect cheaper prices here, without compromising on the quality.

In the midst of our shopping spree, the princess could not beat the sleepy bug any longer. Unable to locate the nearest Starbucks (her usual pit-stop), we "parked" her at the first fast food restaurant we saw. Luckily, it was not crowded and we managed to secure a couch seat for her to take a nap while both of us took turns to enjoy some "ME" time.
We bought  a lot of toiletries items at this area. Everything seemed so cheap! It was then I realised why everyone was dragging small luggage around - it was to put all the shopping bags in and dragged it back. What an brilliant idea! I shall do this on my next Japan trip.

After the sleeping beauty woke up, we headed back to our hotel room to drop all of our shopping bags before going out for dinner.

Dinner was a simple affair of ramen followed by a routine trip to the supermarket before we rounded up for the day.

It was certainly fun to just chill, eat and shop for the entire day. No plans, no schedules and no stress. That's one of the many reasons why we always prefer a free and easy holiday.
