Family Road Trip - K.L/Genting Highlands - Day 2

Loon Sing Restaurant
Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Center Hotel & Residence
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur
Xu Liu Shan
Dragon-I Restaurant

Selamat pagi! (Good morning in Malay)

Today, we shall start the journey up north to Kuala Lumpur which will take us an estimated 4hours. But before we embarked on our ride, we need to fill our tummy with a good breakfast.

And so, today, our "tour guide" recommended Loon Sing Restaurant (located less than 5mins from our hotel) for its "eat until want to vomit but still cheap" dim-sum.
After checking out, we drove happily to the restaurant parking area and saw that it was quite vacant. Assuming that we were the early birds, we walked to the entrance of the restaurant and found out that the restaurant was closed! What?!?!?! According to my brother, this restaurant opens from 8am on weekends. Feeling puzzled, we peeped into the restaurant glass door and saw that the kitchen was lighted! Hope ~~~~~~~~~~  We waved and knocked on the door and one of the staff came forward. When questioned on the opening hours, he said there was a change lately. He ushered us to our seats first and told us that food will only be ready in another 20mins or so. Ok! No problem! Good food is definitely worth the wait.

We left the ordering to the experts once again while we marvelled at the scale of this place. It's really huge. The first floor holds the public seating area while the second floor are the private rooms (complete with karaoke functions). It even has a ballroom!

Look at how big this area is!

By the time we finished exploring the place, food was ready! Let's tuck in!

Appetizers - too hungry until the peanuts were almost emptied

Fried carrot cake with XO sauce

The deep fried silver fish that my brother highly recommend
Braised ee-fu noodles
Deep fried sotong
And this is only Round 1 ~~~~~

Breakfast was indeed enjoyable and cheap! As a dim-sum lover, I must admit the food was of premium grade. And the personalised service rendered by the staff was faultless as well. Maybe we were the first (and only) customer!

After the yummy breakfast, it was time to hit the road once again. We set off from Johor at about 11am and targeted to reach Kuala Lumpur by 3pm (hopefully) with one pitstop along the way.

We came well prepared

After my last Malacca trip which left me
with severe sunburn, I came in full gear
to counter the sun!

Hello Kuala Lumpur! We finally reached Kuala Lumpur! Before our ETA!
It was such a tiring ride for me even though I was not the one driving. The sun was merciless en route along the expressway. Trees were sparse and the soaring temperature from the tarmac made the whole journey almost unbearable. I'm just so glad to survive the ride and arrived at our hotel - the very posh looking Pullman Hotel Kuala Lumpur City Center.

Beautiful Christmas tree at the lobby

Either by luck or by chance, all of our rooms were upgraded. The hotel claimed that it was due to my brother's earnest contributions to the TripAdvisor website. Taking the statement with a pinch of salt, we proceeded to our respective rooms which we have requested to be on the same floor.

After freshening up, we headed over to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur which was located just across the hotel. Now, this shopping mall is HUGE! With more than 500 retail shops and restaurants, you can certainly shop and eat to your heart's content. There is also a cinema and karaoke in the mall.

Mickey Mouse was there to celebrate Christmas too!

It was relatively early for dinner (4pm) but we were getting a little hungry. So, we decided to stop for some desserts at Hui Lau Shan - the famous mango dessert franchise from Hong Kong.
Alas, the mangoes used for the dessert were not up to par. Most of the mangoes, if not all tasted sour! Eeewwwwwww…..

As it was Christmas season, the mall was decked out in beautiful Christmas ornaments and decorations. With the Christmas carols playing in the background, it certainly lifted your mood for shopping. However, the crowd was kind of overwhelming - perhaps everyone was just trying to finish up all the last minute Christmas shopping.

Taking a break

Dining options - definitely spoilt for choices!

Daunted by the crowd, we decided to have our early dinner at Dragon-I, famous for its Peking Duck and it certainly did not disappoint. It was even more satisfying when the meal was in Malaysian Ringgit!

After dinner, we chanced upon my favourite bakery in Malaysia - Lavender Bakery
Everything looked so inviting and mouth-watering. In the end, we bought 2 slices of cake - Red Velvet and Strawberry Shortcake back to the hotel for our dessert.

Her mandatory routine at every hotel stay
Sooooooooo sooooooooooo good!

Good night, everyone! It has been a long day driving up to Kuala Lumpur. Tomorrow, we will head up to Genting Highland - a place which I haven't visit in 20 years.
